An event dedicated to "May 28 - Independence Day" was held at the Institute of Radiation Problems (RPI) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). First, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded at the event, and then a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our homeland.

In his introductory speech at the event, Director General of the Institute, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Islam Mustafayev informed the participants about the history and significance of May 28 - Independence Day.

Ravan Mehdiyeva, Executive Director of the Institute, Chairwoman of the Women's Council of the Institute and the territorial organization of the New Azerbaijan Party, Doctor of Philosophy in Physics, Associate Professor, said that the Declaration of Independence adopted on May 28, 1918 declared Azerbaijan an independent state. Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the East, emerged as a logical result of centuries-old socio-economic, socio-political and cultural development, the processes of national awakening and revival of our people. Although the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic collapsed on April 27, 1920, it was an indicator of the level of political consciousness, intellectual and cultural potential of our people.

Other speakers at the event said that our independence is eternal and irreversible, every inch of our homeland is sacred, and every step on the path to success signals future development.
