The conference "Radiation safety problems: regional aspects," dedicated to the 75th anniversary of academician M.K. Karimov, was held

In honor of academician M.K. Karimov's 75th birthday, the Institute of Radiation Problems and Nakhchivan State University organized a scientific and technical conference on "Radiation Safety: Regional Aspects" on October 18–19, 2023.

Nakhchivan State University's Congress Hall hosted the conference's opening ceremony. In his introductory remarks, University Rector E. Isayev congratulated everyone on Independence Day and discussed the necessity of cooperation between the two fields of study—science and education. The speakers—academicians A. Hashimov, serving as ANAS's first vice president; professor A. Zamanov, vice-rector for scientific affairs at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University; academicians Ismayil Hajiyev and A. Garibov — then discussed Mahmud Karimov's noteworthy accomplishments during his tenure as ANAS president. They discussed his multifarious endeavors, the advances he brought about in the areas of personnel policy and science management, the National Strategy for the Development of Science formulated during those years, and his organizational efforts in science.

The conference attendees were given an overview of the academician's life, scientific pursuits, and social activities by R. Mehdiyeva, who worked in M. Karimov's laboratory and later became his student. She also spoke about the man's boundless enthusiasm for scientific research.

After the lunch break, the conference continued its work on divisions.

In-depth discussions were held, and scientific reports were given by O. Samadov, a corresponding member of ANAS, professors R. Madatov and R. Sardarli, doctors of sciences in physics and mathematics, S. Mammadli, a doctor of sciences in biology, F. Khumbatov, H. Mahmudov, Y. Jafarov, N. Rzayev, and J. Nagiyev, PhDs in physics, and others.

Other attendees of the hybrid meeting made high-level presentations and delivered speeches online.

On the eve of the conference, issues of cooperation with NSU were discussed.

At the end of the conference, a visit to the Ashabi-Kahf shrine was organized as part of the cultural-mass events.
