Next meeting of the Presidium of ANAS

On February 7, a regular meeting of the Presidium of ANAS was held.

In advance, President of ANAS academician Ramiz Mehdiyev presented the chairman of the Ganja Division of ANAS academician Fuad Aliyev and director of the Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev of ANAS academician Ramiz Mammadov the Order of Shohrat, which scientists were awarded by order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then, head of ANAS presented the jubilee medals of the Republic of Azerbaijan “100th anniversary of Baku State University (1919-2019)” to academics - Akif Alizadeh, Ramiz Mammadov, Telman Aliyev, Nazim Mammadov, Vagif Farzaliyev, Vagif Abbasov, corresponding members - Gurban Yetirmishli, Misir Mardanov, Ogtay Gasimov, Ogtay Samadov and Bakhtiyar Mammadov.

Opening the event, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev noted that the meeting was dedicated to the results of scientific, scientific-organizational activities of the ANAS Division of Earth Sciences in 2019.

Afterwards, report of the division was presented by the first vice-president of ANAS chairman of the Division of Earth Sciences academician Ibrahim Guliyev. The academician said that in the reporting year, the activities of the scientific institutions of the division were based on the decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, state programs, orders of the head of ANAS, resolutions of the General Meeting and the Presidium of ANAS.

The speaker noted that in 2019, division’s institutions conducted studies covering 14 problems and 48 topics, 70 works were completed, 13 important results were obtained. Having said that two works found their application, the scientist added that last year work was completed that was carried out under 26 business contracts.

Speaking about the publishing activities of the division, the academician said that 291 articles were published, 144 of which were published abroad, and 104 theses, 45 of which were published abroad, 45 of these articles were published in journals with impact factor. He emphasized that last year 10 monographs, 3 books and 19 textbooks prepared by scientists of the division were published, and 25 grants and two patents were received, one of which was received abroad.

Talking about training, academician Ibrahim Guliyev noted that in 2019, 16 were enrolled in the masters’ and 12 were in doctoral studies, at present 20 doctoral students are studying at the institutes of the division according to the Ph.D. training program.

Speaking about international relations, first vice-president said that cooperation was continued in the reporting year and joint research work was carried out with scientific-educational institutions in the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and other countries. Academician Ibrahim Guliyev also added that last year the division had four international research laboratories.

Speaking about the use of information and communication technologies in scientific research, academician noted that division cooperates with information bases NASA, UNAVCO, EMSC, ZOPAC, EMSC, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Institute of Earth Physics RAS, Organization for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and other scientific institutions.

In his report, the speaker also spoke about conferences and anniversaries organized in scientific institutions of the division, structural changes, awards, foreign business trips, the integration of science and education, the activities of young scientists and specialists, expeditions, etc.

After listening to the report, discussions were held, questions were responded. The discussions were attended by members of the Presidium of ANAS and heads of scientific institutions attached to the division.

After discussions, Presidium approved the report on the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Division of Earth Sciences of ANAS in 2019, it was decided to include the important results in the annual report of the Presidium of ANAS. The division was instructed to implement activities related to such priority areas of science as non-classical problems of fracture mechanics, the study of the Binagadi burial of the remains of the Quaternary flora and fauna, an intelligent geographical information system, oil at great depths, geodynamics and seismology.

By the following decree of the Presidium, was made partial changes to the structure of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS.
