Brief information about the history of the organization

The Institute of Radiation Problems was established on the basis of the Radiation Research Sector of ANAS according to the decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 81, dated May 21, 2002 and No. 13/1 of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, dated June 3, 2002.

The Radiation Research Sector of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences was established by the decisions No. 27 of the State Science and Technology Committee under the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated May 21, 1969 and No. 26 of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan SSR Academy of Sciences dated June 20, 1969, in order to study the scientific and scientific-technical bases of the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Azerbaijan, the impact of various ionizing rays on substances, the environment, and living things, physical-chemical problems of energy transformations, radioecology and radiation safety directions.

The following main scientific directions of the Radiation Research Sector have been approved: Study of the kinetics and mechanism of radiation petrochemical synthesis, study and development of radiation modification of petrochemical products, study of the effect of radiation on construction materials and equipment and investigation of methods of increasing their radiation resistance.

Over the past 50 years, the directions and main priorities of research have been changed.

Currently, research is being conducted in the following 4 directions at the Institute of Radiation Problems:
- Radiation safety
- Radiation materials science
- Radiation Technologies
- Environmentally clean energy
