Head of the Laboratory is: Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Salamov Oktay Mustafa oglu

Total number of employees: 9

The main activities of the laboratory are:
Alternative energy, heating technology, and energy transformations.

The main scientific results of the Laboratory are:
Scientific research on alternative energy has been ongoing since 1974. In the first period, research aimed at solving local technical issues was more prevalent. In connection with the next energy crisis that started in the world in 1977, scientific research was conducted in the direction of converting and using solar and wind energy with the universal energy carrier hydrogen, and the following important results were obtained:
- In addition, several solar and wind power plants operating separately and in a combined manner have been developed, created, and practically studied in the climatic conditions of Baku city, which include the following:
- solar-photovoltaic and wind energy devices for receiving high-purity hydrogen and oxygen gases under pressure from water (the devices are used for heat processing of small-sized jewelry); - anti-corrosion systems powered by photovoltaic and wind power sources to protect underground metal equipment from electrochemical and electrical corrosion (they were applied to protect 300 m and 3 km long parts of the Sumgayit-Karadagh central gas pipeline from corrosion, respectively); - at the same time, a system for heating nursery-type places supplied by two wind power generations (it was used to heat a covered nursery with a total area of 150 m2);
- different modifications of separate and combined solar-wind heating and hot water supply systems; - thermochemical reactors and dosing systems for obtaining a mixture of hydrogen and combustible gas (H2, CO2, CH4, etc.) in a parabolic high-temperature solar concentrator (4 copyright certificates have been obtained for these reactors, installations, and systems);
- optimization tools, as well as tracking and security systems (most of those tools and systems have received copyright certificates from the former USSR, as well as patents from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan);
- For the first time, mathematical models of a solar electrolysis system were developed for obtaining high-purity hydrogen and oxygen gases under pressure from water, as well as a parabolic high-temperature solar concentrator for obtaining combustible gas mixtures from biomass and organic waste.
- In the state of Azerbaijan, numerous research studies have been carried out on the possibilities of using solar and wind energy. A brief cadastre of wind and solar regimes has been compiled for the entire territory of Azerbaijan. At this time, for the first time, possible wind regimes were determined in vertical extrapolation, including at heights up to 2 km.
- A 2-module parabolic cylindrical solar power concentrator has been developed in order to use the heat of solar energy, which is economically and ecologically favorable, in the process of preparing crude oil for processing in mining conditions.
- Natural tests were conducted in the climatic conditions of Baku city in the range of 400-900 W/m2 of solar radiation, and both seasonal and average annual parameters of the device were determined. Research was carried out on the conversion of wind energy into compressed air energy, and then the generation of stable electricity based on it.
- In Absheron’s climatic conditions, a combined system based on solar and wind power plants has been created for hot water supply to rural and summer houses.
- Based on 3 years of experience, certain positive results have been achieved, and work in this field is continuing.
- During the period of 1974-2019, a total of 520 articles were published in local and foreign journals by the employees of the laboratory, and authorship certificates of the USSR were obtained for more than 107 inventions, as well as the patents of the Eurasian Patent Organization of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
- In the future work of the laboratory, it is planned to develop the solar cadastre of the Absheron peninsula, to practically use solar energy devices in rural and summer houses.
- Scientific research is being carried out on methods of obtaining hydrogen and hydrogen-containing gases (H2, CH4, CO, etc.) from organic waste and biomass through solar energy, researching their prospects, and evaluating them economically and ecologically.
