The Institute of Radiation Problems (RPI) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) hosted a commemorative event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

At the event, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the genocide and the brave sons of the Motherland who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of our country.

Then the general director of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Islam Mustafayev made an introductory speech and he noted that the Khojaly genocide, which was directed against the Azerbaijani people as a whole, was written in blood in the history of mankind with its cruelty and inhuman punishment. I.Mustafayev informed the participants of the event that this bloody tragedy was given a legal and political assessment for the first time after the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to power.

Speaking at the event, Ravan Mehdiyeva, Executive Director of the Institute, Doctor of Philosophy in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor, noted that almost no nation has experienced the tragedies, genocides and massacres of the Azerbaijani people in the twentieth century.

Despite the passing of years, the pain of the tragedy is still felt. R.Mehdiyeva noted that the anniversary events were celebrated in many countries of the world and stressed that each of our compatriots took an active part in promoting the truth about the genocide.

Speaking at the end of the event, other speakers said that the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy will always live in the hearts of our people.
