The Institute of Radiation Problems has signed a new cooperation agreement

A three-year agreement on scientific cooperation was signed between the Institute of Radiation Problems (RPI) of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics (GGI).

Director General of the Institute of Radiation Problems and Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Islam Mustafayev, and Director General of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Academician Akif Alizade, signed the aforementioned document.

It should be noted that the Executive Director of the Institute of Radiation Problems, Doctor of Philosophy in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor Ravan Mehdiyeva, Scientific Secretary of the Institute, Doctor of Philosophy in Physics, Associate Professor Amina Mikayilova, head of the "Radiochemistry and Radioprotectors" Laboratory, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Khagani Mammadov, head of the "Radioecology" laboratory, doctor of philosophy in physics, associate professor Famil Khumbatov, and senior researcher of the "Radiation Physics of Irregular Solids" laboratory, doctor of physical sciences, and associate professor Elchin Huseynov also attended the event.

The parties will cooperate scientifically within the parameters of the agreement to combine scientific potential, conduct geological and geophysical research in the areas that have been freed from occupation, and put into action a comprehensive plan to address the environmental and radio-ecological issues that have emerged in the area.

Initially, the parties will work together to prepare a scientifically grounded plan of action on the subject of "Research of radioactive fields and radon gas spreading activity in liberated territories and analysis of the geological nature of "hot spots"" (leader, correspondent member of ANAS, Chingiz Aliyev). This plan will include surface radiometric measurements in the Karabakh economic zone's liberated territories and the determination of radon gas volume activity, as well as gamma-spectrometric analysis of various samples taken from the research area in a lab setting to determine the radionuclide content and radioecological rehabilitation of the area.
