     20-21 November, 2013, VIII conference on “Radiation Researches and Their Practical Aspects” theme dedicated to the 65th anniversary of academician Mahmud Kerimov was held in the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS.
     Besides Azerbaijani scientists, specialists and scientists from Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Middle East and other countries reported their scientific works in the conference which was held with the joint organization of Azerbaijan National Academy of Azerbaijan, The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of AR and The Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS.
     The vise president of ANAS, academician Akif Hajiyev made the opening speech. He told about great scientist, academician Mahmud Kerimov’s rich scientific activity and his scientific achievements gained in the field of radiation researches. Then memory of academician Mahmud Kerimov was remembered with a minute’s silence.
     Talking about the activity of the Institute of Radiation Problems, Akif Hajiyev mentioned that the institute which functions in the field of radiation researches also closely involves in radiation security problems of the Republic related with artificial and natural radioactive substances.
     Delivering a speech on “Life and activity of academician Mahmud Kerimov”, director of the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS, associate member of ANAS Adil Garibov mentioned that rich scientific activity of Mahmud Kerimov who made valuable contribution to the development of physical science in the republic, played an important role in enrichment of radiation physics and information science fields with new knowledge. It was also noted that the academician carried out a lot scientific researches in radioecology and radiation material fields which are of great importance for our republic from the point of solution of scientific-technical problems in the field of nuclear and radiation security. Radiation Researches Sector headed by him for a long period of time became one of the prestigious institutes of the Academy and respected scientific body in international community.
     A.Garibov gave also comprehensive information on latest achievements in the direction of radiation researches in Azerbaijan.
     Academicians Abel Meherremov, Vagif Farzaliyev and others delivered speeches in the meeting, shared their memories about well-known scientist, talented scientific organizer and academician Mahmud Kerimov and characterized him not only as a great scientist, but also as a great person.
     Plenary speeches of associated members of ANAS A.Garibov, V.Huseynov, as well as Prof., Dr. in ch. I.Mustafayev were listened with great interest. The conference was continued on sections. In the two days-conference it has been listened the lectures and carried out discussions on “Radiation Researches, Their Practical Aspects”, “Nuclear Energy, Status and Perspectives”, “Transformation Process Of Nuclear Energy and Application Fields”, “Radiation Materials (radiation chemistry, radiation physics, radiation effects in solids)”, “Existing Problems Of Nuclear and Radiation Security In The Republic”, “Radio-ecological Situation, Problems and Their Solution Methods”.
