Katya Dufre, Manager of the Technical Cooperation Department of the International Atomic Energy Agency for Azerbaijan, visited the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS

The Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS has various ionizing radiation sources, as it deals with the development of scientific and scientific-technical foundations of various ionizing radiation effects on substances, the environment, living things, radioecology and radiation safety. The Co-60 source used in the Scientific-Practical Division of the Institute's "Isotope Original Sources" since 1969 will be charged in the framework of the "Technical Cooperation" Program of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Within the framework of the National Project AZB8002 "Development and Expansion of Radiation Technologies in Azerbaijan" signed between Azerbaijan Republic and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), at 7 kCi activity, the radioactive Co-60 sources are planned to be imported to Azerbaijan for use in the scientific-practical department "Isotope Resource Sources" in the Institute of Radiation Problems of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) under the Purchase Order No. 201305896-VAO dated 18.11.2013.

Katya Dufre, manager of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Department for Azerbaijan, discussed the issues related to the import of these sources to Azerbaijan, their charging to the Co60 source, and the transfer of the old sources to the “Isotope” special combine.
