Head of the Laboratory is: Doctor in Chemical Sciences, Professor Gurbanov Muslum Ahmed oglu

Total number of employees: 14

The main activities of the laboratory are:
- Study of the kinetics and mechanisms of the radiation treatment of toxic compounds: phenols, polycyclic aromatic compounds, organochlorine compounds (chloroform, cyclochlorobenzene, chlorinated biphenyls, and pesticides) as objects of study;
- Study of treatment processes using radiation technology for transformation oil contaminated with chlorinated biphenyls;
- Kinetic modeling of radiolysis processes for the transformation oil and waste waters;
- Investigation of hydrogen and chemical safety in radioactive liquid waste;
- The influence of industrial waste (anthropogenic factors) on the circulation of carbon and its nuclides in the environment and the mathematical modeling of these systems

The main scientific results of the laboratory are:
1. The effect of nano-Al2O3 on the change of the parameters characterizing the dechlorination process, pH index, H2O2, and chemical demand for oxygen, was studied. It has been shown that the presence of nano-Al2O3 in the system decreases the acidity of the pH indicator and the chemical demand for oxygen. This decrease is determined by the concentration of TCB in the system. As the initial concentration of TCB increases, the conversion rate of COD decreases.
2. A chromatographic analysis of PCB isomers was carried out, the kinetic patterns were determined depending on the dose, a possible kinetic scheme of the radiolysis process of the considered system was constructed, and the kinetic characteristics of the conversion of PCB isomers were refined based on the modeling.
3. The rate of conversion increases depending on the initial concentration during the radiolysis of solutions of pesticides in hexane and ethanol under the influence of γ-rays.
4. The radiolysis of aqueous solutions of formic, oxalic, and nitric acid systems at different concentrations was studied. Radiolytic transformation processes of aqueous solutions of binary (oxalate-ant) and ternary (oxalate-ant-nitrate) systems were studied by means of the KINET program. On the basis of the experimental and computational data received, the acid conversion mechanism was discussed, and the possible radiation and chemical safety of liquid radioactive waste storage were evaluated.
5. The age of the wooden piece was determined by the radiocarbon method, and its age was approximately 180±30 years. The age of the wooden piece taken from the mines of Siemens Brothers in Gadabay is 180±35 years. It was determined that the age of the carbonized remains found on the territory of the airport in the Gabala region exceeds 50,000 years.
